NEW
MISSIONARY TO INDONESIA
The love of Christ impels us."
Juan
Ángel Artiles Roberto.cmf
Born in Las Palmas, Canary Island, Spain
On 22/may/1961
First profession: 08/09/1981
Final profession: 16/03/1986
Ordained to Priesthood on the 20th of June 1987.
He left for Indonesia on January 12, 2005.
Due to his father’s assignment, he spent the first
seven years of his life in Equatorial Guinea, where he already
knew the Claretian Missionaries. Back in Spain he studied
in Claret High School of Madrid from 1968 to 1989.
Since his ordination he has been always working in Youth
Ministry, first in our School in Madrid becoming member
of Provincial Youth Ministry team afterwards.
When his father became seriously ill and considering that
Juan Ángel is the only child in the family, he took
care of his father for three years in Las Palmas (1997-2000),
and later on in Colmenar Viejo, in our own Claretian Community
Infirmary. In June 2001 Juan Ángel was appointed
as Director of this Infirmary. Seven months ago, in June
2004, Artiles volunteered for missions abroad and was assigned
to our Indonesian Delegation.
The day before his departure for Indonesia he shares with
us: “Now I’m feeling enthusiastic, hopeful,
trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit, and, of course
a little bit nervous and with some fears. Always when the
Lord calls us, everybody knows that the Mission is always
greater than our personal capabilities. But with the support
of the brothers, the light of the Holy Gospel, and His presence
in my heart… I believe that I can everything when
the Lord comforts me.”
Our brothers in Indonesia will be easily appreciating the
many assets of this 43-year-old Claretian missionary.
