| Summary |
The overall objective of the project is to contribute
to the improvement of health and social conditions of
the Santal Tribe population of the Bardhaman District
area through increasing the access of the village population
(Santal tribe and non tribal inhabitants) to medical assistance
and to promote prevention programmes on vaccination, mother
care and prevention of AIDS. The project aims at reaching
these goals by implementing a health dispensary and a
mobile health unit. |
| Beneficiaries |
Sahanagar population and the families living in 65 villages
in the outskirts. These people are basically agriculturists
and they come from poor economical backgrounds. Their
life is greatly influenced by the forests. Santals mainly
depend on jungle for their food, firewood, building materials
and tools and machines. Today they are all evicted from
their own fields to install industries by the business.
These Santals are appointed as labourers in the industries
and their wages are at the bottom level. |
